This morality tale of the early twentieth century is sure to pull on your heart-strings. this small family made up of the husband, his spendthrift wife, and their angelic daughter, who believes only Jesus and both of her parents are 'perfect,' shows the problems inherent when one is trapped in a situation with no way out.

The wife has put the husband into deep debt, and has to decide: will he take a job and falsify his results, to protect their family interests (and to be sure his little girl will have something to inherit beyond debt?), or should he not take the job so as to ensure his daughter's faith in him as a 'perfect' being? the husband, by taking the job, would cause many middle-class and poorer people to lose money by putting their stakes in a mine that will not continue to produce enough gold--instead of benefiting its shareholders over the long run, it will produce for six months and then cause the entire company to be bankrupted.

the little eight year old girl is drawn as a sweet, precocious delight.
