Born in 1877, Ernest Ibbetson was a renowned British artist celebrated for his detailed paintings of military figures. His work vividly captured the uniforms and regalia of the British Army, earning him recognition as a leading military illustrator.

From 1910, Ibbetson also became an illustrator for Baden-Powell’s Boy Scouts, contributing artwork to Boys’ Lifemagazine for the Boy Scouts of America, which launched around 1912. His artistic career extended into the 1940s, depicting World War II military personnel such as commandos and marines.

Perhaps his most famous work is the powerful Women of Britain Say – Go! recruitment poster, commissioned in May 1915 by the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee during World War I. His legacy as a military and adventure illustrator remains an enduring part of visual history.
