My Ghosts by Mary Swan

My Ghosts by Mary Swan is a richly layered family saga that follows generations of one family across 150 years, revealing the secrets, losses, relationships, and choices that echo through time.

Beginning in Toronto in 1879, the novel introduces a household of Scottish orphans struggling to build a future. From Ben and Charlie to sisters Kez, Nan, and young Clare, their lives unfold into a complex family history filled with love, betrayal, war, marriage, grief, mischief, and hidden truths. As generations pass, the consequences of seemingly ordinary choices continue to shape those who come after.

The story eventually reaches a contemporary Clare, a widow who knows little about the family history that has influenced her own life. Atmospheric and thoughtful, My Ghosts is a strong choice for readers who enjoy multigenerational fiction, Canadian literature, family secrets, and historical storytelling.
