Shaggy Dogs Story

Some people say the term "shaggy dog story" originated in colonial India, where an Indian dog (presumably shaggy) tracked his former master, a colonel in the British Army, across land and sea to the latter's Cornwall estate. Later, the expression came to mean an adventure-filled saga, and it finally morphed into a really long joke capped with a droll punch line.
