Description

The Vision of Purgatory and Paradise by Dante Alighieri presents the final two parts of The Divine Comedy, following Dante’s spiritual journey beyond Hell and toward redemption, enlightenment, and the presence of God. Translated by the Rev. Henry Francis Cary, this edition preserves the elevated tone and moral depth of Dante’s medieval masterpiece.

The volume is illustrated by Gustave Doré, whose dramatic engravings bring Dante’s visions of purification, celestial order, and divine beauty vividly to life. Published by Cassell in 1906, this edition combines classic literature, Christian theology, poetic imagination, and fine book illustration.

A meaningful choice for readers of Dante, religious literature, medieval poetry, and illustrated classics, it is also an attractive collectible for those interested in early twentieth-century editions, Doré artwork, and historic Cassell publications.

Leather, Good. Original 1906 Cassell edition. Illustrated throughout with the classic engravings of Gustave Doré. Front endpaper detached and an early gathering is loose, but present. Clear archival tape repairs on the covers. Binding shows edge wear and rubbing consistent with age. Pages are clean with light age toning and the book remains complete. Gift inscription dated Christmas 1907.
